Yellow Bumblebees

Dear Yellow Bumblebee Family,

Welcome to the Yellow Bumblebee Room! Our classroom is composed of 12 two year olds and 3 to 4 classroom teachers. Our teacher to child ratio is 1:6.

At NEEC we follow the Project Construct curriculum. We believe that children learn through “play” that is both uninterrupted and child initiated. During play the children are building on their social skills, turn taking skills, communication with others, problem solving and more. Some of the areas that are available in the classroom for the children to explore are: house area, blocks, manipulative, puzzles, art center, book area, etc.

Art and sensory time is provided daily and our focus is on the process of creating and not the end product. The art process is open-ended and the children will work with crayons, scissors, markers, glue, chalk, paint and other mediums. As for sensory the children will be given opportunities to explore with sand, dirt, water and shaving cream. Something to keep in mind is that as a child learns they get messy and therefore need to be dressed in “play clothes.”

Lesson plans are created based on the child’s interests and developmental needs. We are constantly adding materials to help guide the children to success. Within the lesson plans there are many different learning areas that are focused on. For example: math, science, reading, social interaction, etc.

Circle time is an important part of the day where new concepts are introduced. We will also be using this time to focus on colors, shapes, letters, name recognition, sign language, and sing songs. We will also read books that are related to the theme during this time.

As you can see we are very busy bees. A new experience that we will start is attending story time at the Mid Continent Library on Wednesdays. Also during the year we will be taking field trips and having celebrations in which we will be inviting our families to participate in!

We are excited to have your child in our class and we look forward to teaching and learning with your child. Please feel free to contact us is you have any questions or concerns.

ToddSincerely,
Yellow Bumblebee Staff
