Brown Bears
Dear Brown Room Family,
Welcome to the Brown Bears Room! This classroom is composed of 12 two year olds and 3 teachers. Our teacher to child ratio is 1:6.
At NEEC we follow the Project Construct curriculum. We believe that children learn through “play” that is both uninterrupted and child initiated. During play the children are building on their social skills, turn taking skills, communication with others, problem solving skills and more. Some of the areas available in the classroom for the children to explore include: house/dramatic play area, blocks, manipulatives, puzzles, art center, book area, etc.
Art and sensory time is provided daily and our focus is on the process of creating rather than the finished product. The art process is open-ended and the children will work with crayons, scissors, markers, glue, chalk, paint, and other mediums. During sensory time the children will be given opportunities to explore with sand, dirt, water, and various other materials. Please remember that these learning times can be messy and therefore please send your child to school in “play clothes.”
Lesson plans are created based on the child’s interests and developmental need. Materials are constantly added to guide the children to success. Many different learning areas will be focused on within the lesson plans.
Circle time is an important part of the day where new concepts are introduced. This time will also be used to focus on colors, shapes, letters, name recognition, sign language, and singing songs as well as reading books that are related to the theme.
We will take a weekly field trip next door to the Mid Continent Library for story time. Library story time will be every Wednesday at 9:30. We will also take a few field trips during the year including the pumpkin patch, zoo, and Shatto Milk Co. We will also have periodic class celebrations. These are extra special times for us and we welcome all families to participate.
The Brown Bear staff is very excited to have your child join our class and look forward to teaching and learning with you and your child. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Natasha Palmer
