Curriculum

NEEC follows a constructivist approach in which all children learn through play.  A child’s work demonstrates many developmental milestones that are imperative in all learning.  Children construct their own knowledge and values as a result of interactions with the physical and social world.  Teachers in all of our classrooms write lesson plans that coordinate with the children’s interests and provide materials that challenge every student. The classroom environment consists of many areas in which children are given choices to work with toys that stimulate them.  One area that is present in all rooms, including the infant rooms, is a quiet corner where literacy is rich and plentiful and the children have opportunities for more serene play.  Mathematics, science, art and dramatic play are visible throughout the classrooms in clearly defined centers.  Children eat meals that include 2 snacks and a lunch, in a family-style manner where they serve themselves and practice healthy eating habits.
