“I can’t really remember when I met my best friend,
Kathryn, but my Grammy says I was about 15 months old. That’s when I fir
st came to the Lighthouse
and we were in the same class. I would
sit by her in class and at lunch and, of course, play her on the
playground. Kathryn had to go to
therapy and sometimes they had me go with her. It was fun because we could play puzzles, color and do playdoh together.
One day it was time for us to leave, what is now Northland Early Education
Center-we were going to
kindergarten. I was excited because it
sounded like fun. But when I went to
school, Kathryn wasn’t there. I missed
her so much. We would talk on the phone
and get
together for play days but it was hard. We were a part of each other’s lives all that time. And Kathryn was sad because she didn’t have
me, her best friend. She had a hard time
making new friends because my Grammy explained Kathryn had ‘special
needs’. The only thing I noticed about
her was she was my very special friend.
Now we are in second grade-still at different
schools. But we talk to each other and
get to see each other for play days. We
go to lunch and soon we will have a sleep over at her house.
My name is Gracie and this is my story about my
“forever best friend.”
